Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have serious immediate and long-term consequences for teens.
Young people make up about a quarter of the sexually active population in the US, yet they are responsible for half of all sexually transmitted infections (STIs).1
Utah STI rates are increasing. Between 2008 and 2018, rates of chlamydia increased nearly 48% and rates of gonorrhea jumped a whopping 412%.2,3
STIs not only come with a lot of discomfort. They also have serious consequences down the road. They have been known to cause infertility, increase susceptibility to HIV, and put individuals at risk for developing conditions like pelvic inflammatory disease.4,5
